Intelligent automation as an integral part of Digital Transformation

In these difficult economic times for many companies, any initiative to make their business more efficient, contain costs and stand out among competitors is considered of paramount importance.

The current delicate situation has helped to emphasize those "internal inefficiencies" that did not have much impact on the business but can no longer be tolerated today, thus accelerating the interest of a growing number of realities in the topic of automation and making it for all intents and purposes a key component in the digital transformation process that can no longer be procrastinated.

In its own classical sense, automation is for certain one of the most traditional themes of computer science and perhaps even represents its essence, that is, the ability to make a machine perform tasks that were hitherto the preserve of flesh-and-blood individuals.

The differentiator of modern hyperautomation from the past lies in the introduction of the potential offered by artificial intelligence, in a nutshell in assigning a range of increasingly intelligent operations and tasks to machines. The spectrum of tasks that can be automated is thus expanding exponentially, resulting in ever-increasing optimization of business process efficiency and the consequent reallocation of people to higher-level tasks.

Process Mining Tools

The tools made available to hyperautomation to support transformation toward efficiency are numerous and varied in nature. Process Mining tools, for example, make it possible to generate the so-called "digital twin of organization," i.e., a digital representation of a company with visual evidence of its processes and the identification of any weaknesses (bottlenecks, lack or abundance of resources, inadequate timing and costs). At Mauden, under this special magnifying glass, we had the opportunity to analyze various business processes, from invoice control and reconciliation to bid generation, drawing valuable insights.

This sort of "x-ray" serves as a starting point from which to mature strategic decisions, whether focused on process transformation, process automation or the need to plan specific interventions. The potential effect of change can also be simulated by the same process mining tools that preview its effectiveness while minimizing risks.  

Robotic Process Automation Tools

Once the automatable tasks have been identified, it is up to Robotic Process Automation tools to enable defined business processes, in part or in their entirety, to undergo this transformation. In terms of RPA, Mauden is also able to offer the most suitable tool, pairing it with intelligent features such as virtual assistants, document readers (OCR), text classifiers and Machine Learning algortims.

In some cases, the adoption of comprehensive business process management tools is the final piece in the whole orchestration of hyperautomation. Intelligent Business Process Management platforms have evolved so much from the past that they have become quite performant with the introduction of new features enabled by artificial intelligence along with the latest sharing and collaboration applications.

The benefits of adopting hyperautomation technologies are tangible, evidenced also by the increasing demands from our customers for whom Mauden has succeeded in increasing the efficiency of some business processes, making them standard and enabling their more timely control, with related cost reductions and greater reliability and accuracy.

Adopting a strategy that embraces hyperautomation requires an understanding that certain issues need to be addressed with a competent team and an appropriate approach.

In particular, our experience leads us to argue that first and foremost, the establishment of a roadmap is crucial in order to avoid automation being reduced to extemporaneous initiatives or extravagant experiments by one or more corporate offices. 

The importance of KPI's

Second, it is necessary to establish the KPIs necessary for a proper assessment of the effectiveness of the application of these technologies, while knowing that the identification of many indirect benefits may be arduous.

Ultimately, the company must show readiness for the eventual redeployment of people wholly or partially involved in the automated processes and be aware that the professional skills required for non-automatable activities will inevitably be higher.

Compliance with these premises is the basis for setting up an appropriate strategy for the introduction of hyperautomation, making it the leading technology for the process of digital transformation and increasing one's competitiveness.
