In 9 months raised more than 300 thousand euros to finance ideas aimed at social inclusion and improving the quality of life of the Milanese.
Great success for the Milan City Council's first civic crowdfunding experiment, which in just 9 months has raised about 330 thousand euros to finance ideas aimed at social inclusion and improving the quality of life of the Milanese.

THE TREE HOUSE of the Gorlini space - which makes the space more attractive with activities to stimulate participation and socialization; the URBAN POMODORTS - in via Baschenis in Quarto Oggiaro; THE NETTLE YARD - a modern arts workshop to offer advanced and innovative tools to future talents; CN-SMARTL'HUB - the smart city conceived by Don Gino Rigoldi's Comunità Nuova association; and MEDICINEMA - the project that uses famous films as a relief therapy in hospital facilities, with targeted programs for patients and family members are just 5 of the 16 ideas (below is the list of projects) co-funded by network users and the City of Milan through the Eppela platform - first in Italy for reward-based crowdfunding - chosen as a partner in the initiative with a tender.

18 originally selected proposed projects were divided into 4 groups and published at 4 different times of the year within an area specially created for the initiative on eppela.com. Each idea was given 50 days to fundraise. 16 out of 18 of these business ideas raised funding at least equal to half of the total amount planned for their implementation and will now benefit from a contribution from the city administration to cover the remainder - up to 50 thousand euros maximum per individual project - for a total of about 660 thousand euros invested. Presenting the results were Councillor for Labor Policies and Productive Activities Cristina Tajani and Councillor for Social Policies Pierfrancesco Majorino.

"The positive results achieved in these nine of months of experimentation, with 89% of proposed projects promoted by the network and more than 300 thousand Euros collected among web users, show how today it is possible, thanks to crowdfunding, to hypothesize funding scenarios other than public contribution to support social projects and new start-ups - so Councillor for Employment Policies, Productive Activities and Commerce Cristina Tajani, who continues - Civic crowdfunding has proven to be a valuable resource, not only for the possibility of raising funds, but also for the dissemination through the network of the initiatives in progress. A sort of amplifier in a social key of ideas, projects and initiatives thought up by nonprofit associations and subjects that in the coming months will work concretely in the social field to improve the lives of the Milanese."

"From the public/private union," adds the Councillor for Social Policies, Pierfrancesco Majorino, "great projects can be born, and this first municipal crowdfunding experience is proof of that. The amount raised, which the municipality will double, will allow the development of new ideas in the areas of personal services, urban cultural and social regeneration, and the recovery and redevelopment of places in the city."
Majorino, concluding, said he was particularly satisfied with the result achieved by the Facciamo Festa alla Mafia project, which will allow Casa Chiaravalle and its grounds, the largest asset seized and confiscated in Milan, to be reborn and become a place for educational workshops on legality, parties and cultural events for the neighborhood and the city.

1492 users (624 women and 714 men) and 154 private companies, associations, cooperatives or other legal entities contributed to the collection goals with their donations on Eppela.
The highest single donation was 6 thousand Euros donated by a social cooperative to the project "The Nettle Yard," while the lowest donation was 5 Euros. The project that raised the highest amount through donations alone was "Cinewall," with over 50 thousand Euros.

"Our experiment," Eppela CEO Nicola Lencioni finally said, "has opened a new way to bring citizens and local communities closer to public administration.
